Suspect arrested in Yeoville with a stolen car; allegedly tried to bribe police with R2,000.
Johannesburg – A female suspect was apprehended in Yeoville, Johannesburg, after she was allegedly found in possession of a stolen vehicle. The arrest was carried out by officers from the Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD).
According to authorities, during the arrest the suspect allegedly attempted to bribe the officers with R2,000 in an effort to avoid being taken into custody. The officers rejected the bribe and immediately charged her with both possession of a stolen vehicle and bribery.
JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla confirmed the incident, noting that the integrity of the officers on duty ensured that the suspect faced the full consequences of her actions. “We commend our officers for resisting corruption and ensuring that justice takes its course. Attempts to bribe law enforcement are themselves serious crimes that will not be tolerated,” said Fihla.
The suspect has since been detained at Johannesburg Central SAPS and is expected to appear in court soon on charges of possession of a stolen motor vehicle and attempted bribery.
Authorities have urged members of the public to report suspected stolen vehicles and corruption attempts, highlighting that partnerships between communities and the police remain critical in the fight against crime.
